USA Cycling has announced the locations for the 2019 USA Cycling Cyclocross Talent ID camps, doubling the number of camps from two to four this year. The four camps will be held in Anderson Island, Wash., Los Olivos, Calif, Charlottesville, Va. and Gill, Mass. Each camp is between 3 and 5 days long, taking place between July 31st and Aug 18th. Each camp hosts between 20-30 riders and will include unique educational experiences.
“We have seen amazing transformations of athletes through these Cyclocross Talent ID camps in the past, and we’re excited to offer four camps through our development program this year.” said Jesse Anthony, Cyclocross Manager for USA Cycling. “These camps are excellent opportunities for young riders to learn about the sport, make new friends, connect with the vibrant cyclocross community, and they are great opportunities to explore the sport of cyclocross outside of the typical race environment.
Talent ID Camps also serve as a chance to integrate into USA Cycling’s Development pipeline. The top 5 riders from both the Junior Men and Junior Women categories will qualify to the USA Cycling Cyclocross Development Pool. Additionally, for the first time, USA Cycling is offering a supported domestic racing opportunity to camp participants. The top two juniors (one male and one female) from each camp will qualify for a supported racing trip to the JingleCross/Iowa World Cup weekend. This opportunity is made possible by the USA Cycling Foundation MudFund with support from the Rapha Foundation and is one of several new development initiatives being implemented through the bolstered cyclocross development program.
While USA Cycling Cyclocross Talent ID camps do not have automatic qualification standards, there is a minimum experience level required to ensure the safety of and maximize the learning opportunities for all camp participants. Interested riders racing ages 14-19 should contact the camp manager with a short list of their best results and brief description of their experience in all disciplines of cycling.
