Cary, North Carolina to Host the 2019 USA Cycling BMX Freestyle National Championships

The 2019 National Championships will showcase the top U.S. BMX Freestyle talent and provide a preview for athletes to watch for the 2020 Summer Olympics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Cycling announced today the awarding of the 2019 USA Cycling BMX Freestyle National Championships to Cary, North Carolina. The competition will take place on October 4th, kicking-off a weekend of BMX events including the Pan American Continental Championships (10/5) and Cary BMX Freestyle Competition (10/6).

The event will serve as the inaugural USA Cycling BMX Freestyle National Championships, providing fans with a preview of the top BMX athletes who will be potentially representing the U.S. at the upcoming World Championships and next year’s Olympic Games.

Cary, North Carolina, which hosted a UCI C1 event in April of this year, will partner with USA Cycling to host the event. The BMX Freestyle National Championships will be one of the seventeen National Championships in 2019.

“We are honored that Cary, North Carolina has been chosen to host the USA Cycling BMX Freestyle National Championships,” said Doug McRainey, Director of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources in Cary, North Carolina. “Cary has hosted many BMX events and is proud to be the site of the first BMX Freestyle National Championship. Our community has always supported the sport of BMX, we are looking forward to having the best U.S. BMX athletes compete in our backyard this fall.”

The 2019 USA Cycling BMX Freestyle National Championships will take place at Cary Action Sports Park that is open to the public year-round, hosting participants of all ages and skill levels for skateboards, inline/quad skates, non-folding scooters and BMX bikes.

“We’re excited to bring BMX Freestyle Nationals to Cary and showcase our amazing athletes to the community,” said Chuck Hodge, USA Cycling’s Chief of Racing and Events. “BMX Freestyle is one of our most exciting cycling disciplines, this inaugural event will be a memorable one."
