Day Two Of Master's Road sees 10 National Champions Crowned

By: Kelly Fox  August 10, 2019

10 National Champions Friday at the 2019 USA Cycling Masters Road Championships in the Road Race which was contested at the U.S. Air Force Academy campus. Riders contested multiple laps of the 18.3-kilometer course, which included sections of the 1986 World Championship Course.

Former pro, Michael Olheiser (Huntsville, Ala.) won the race in a sprint against three other riders. When asked about the race and his win he said, “The climbs were a lot harder than I thought they’d be. The course was hard enough that there wasn’t a lot of talking throughout the day. One guy rode off and there were about seven of us left and we just said let him go and we’ll try to pull him back. We ended up in group of three pulling him back and we really only pulled him back in the last five kilometers. I was pretty bummed out about losing the Time Trial yesterday so today was a bit of redemption.”

Racing continues Saturday with another full day of Road Racing at the Air Force Academy and will move to Banning Lewis Ranch on Sunday for the Criterium.
